Dominican Republic Countryside

A part of Dominican Republic which is close to Haiti is less populated, seems wilder, more spacious, and actually gave me a feeling of an African territory. People are darker in tone, there are French radio stations playing (Haiti used to be a French colony), and it generally feels very exotic. These photos are from the road going from Santo Domingo towards Haiti.

The landscape becomes more spacious when leaving Santo Domingo area.

Flora in abundance creating nice views.

What is noteworthy about Dominican Republic is a great number of motocycles. It is a very popular mode of travelling here.

We stopped to grab a bite and I snuck in to take a photo of a "fruit man".

Even closer look. Apples hanging from threads. Interesting idea!

More bikes. They are everywhere.

Just like palm trees.

I love the landscape. It is uncontaminated and open.

We are slowly driving through little towns observing the locals.

People don't live rich here.

A highway to heaven. Or, rather, to Haiti where not many people recommend to go.

Oh, those palm trees. I will never get bored of them.

A bike date on the road?

Bananas. Another popular item in this country. Frequent police check points are too.

Driving ahead.

I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror.

Driving by these little poor houses definitely made me feel like in Africa. I dont know why. I have never been there. For some reason, though, this area emanates Africa to me.

Light in color ground, shanty buildings, black people around...the exotic is in the air!

Oh, how cute..

More villages on the way.

And more palm trees against the sunset.

I wish I could explore this area more but it is getting dark and we need to head back.

Last look at the houses.

Bike gangs are everywhere...Very curious indeed.

There is always an opportunity to grab a fruit and be healthy.

At a speed bump, people selling anything "attack" our car. Haha. Funny.
