El Salvador in general

El Salvador's name still evokes images of the brutal civil war fought throughout the 1980s. The war, however, is over and the most turbulent aspect of El Salvador today is its volcanic landscape. The official name is Republic of El Salvador. The country was named after the Spanish word for "The Savior" in honor of Jesus. El Salvador is the smallest country in continental America.

A lot of women wear this kind of head decor. We were not able to figure out why yet. Perhaps just a local style?

El Salvador's west part is pretty volcanic

Coatepeque Lake-considered by some as one of 10 most beautiful lakes in the world

Coatepeque Lake

This is a nice area to observe the lake. There are several little local restaurants at the cliff where you can admire the view and rest

We happened to go to one with vibrant musicians playing and singing local tunes

The man on the left was especially into it. You could tell music is his passion and happiness.

There are also several relax spots to view the lake from. The dog in the picture is unusually well fed. Dont be fooled. This is not a normal sight in this area as most dogs walk around skinny and hungry

People's custom seems to be here travelling in pick up trucks

There are really a lot of them..and all packed. Good way to move around. And fun!!

On the way to Costa del Sol beaches. Although coconut vendors are pretty much everywhere

Just a simple shot from the car

This is Costa del Sol pacific ocean shore

Straw huts invite to come in and cool as it is very, very hot

Not many people around here

The beach does not swipe you off your feet, but it does look pretty exotic

Especially with those palm tress .....

...and coconuts lying around everywhere

I am stuck behind San Salvador bus. Welcome back to the city!

The hotel we are staying at is very welcoming

So I am taking advantage of the amenities

El Salvador napkin holder...

...and El Salvador license plate
