Tazumal
was one of the first major Salvadoran sites to be scientifically excavated.
There is evidence that it has been occupied almost continuously since
5000 BC. Tazumal was a Maya regional cultural centre. It marks the southernmost
extension of the Maya culture. It is the biggest site of this type in
El Salvador.
This is Santa Ana, the second largest city in El Salvador
on the way to El Tazumal
And again, a lot of women with really big stuff on their heads
This is anything unusal here
We finally made it. The pyramid looks
pretty impressive
The grass around it is spotless. My boyfriend even thought we were not
allowed to step on it
One of the sides
To be honest, I don't have a clue as to what this was here
From this angle, the pyramid looks the
greatest
Who could resist climbing up the stairs?
After all, it is an ancient site and it is great to feel a part of it
A close up of stone stairs for the enthusiasts
of greater detail
A stairway to heaven
More photos on the staircase
...and one more
A different shot of the site
Not many tourists around. El Salvador
in general is not a tourist oriented country
We go all around the pyramid
My boyfriend taking shots of the pyramid from all around. He wants me
to pose...ooooo...I love you too!
A nice plant posing with the pyramid
More plants to pose with it
This is the back side
The back side
There is some protection set up here
And yet another side of the pyramid
Finally, we spotted some people
Back to the main side. Lets play some football, boys..
Main side
Main side
Main side again
Its nice to contemplate what happened here centuries ago
Outside of the El Tazumal park, there
are several local craft stores
You can buy these cheap or, you can buy little antique ones for 30-50
dollars each (not displayed on the table)
