Suchitoto

Suchitoto is widely known throughout El Salvador for its Church and for its rock roads. It is a colonial town and one of the few areas in El Salvador were there are still rock roads and not cemented roads. Suchitoto was founded by precolumbian pipil populations who were defeated by Spaniards during the conquest.

Suchitoto is one of the most charming little towns I encountered anywhere

It is very quiet. Almost no sounds of vehicles at all

The cathedral at the centre of the town is beautiful. It was built by Spaniards in 1700s.

It glows brightly in the sun

It is pure white

Gotta have a picture to prove I was really there, dont I?

Outside of the cathedral there are several interesting sculptures

Some of them are very tall

Harley bikers are somewhere around resting

One more shot of the cathedral, why not?

Ok.This is beyond me. A woman is carrying a whole cooler on her head!

This is a nice spot to relax in shade and immerse in the silence of the place

But hey, one can also relax in the sun.

Or maybe not.. It is very, very hot

We walk around the streets more. The town has a feeling of antiquity

Until I cant walk any more and need to chill big time. Its very hot and I am wearing black like an idiot

The silence of this town is pretty incredible. It is so silent that it literally feels heavy.

There are few souvenirs stores and a man selling El Salvadorian hats

We go to do more walking

A beautiful lake emerged in front of us

Streets of Suchitoto

We come across a tiny police station

...and a nice looking restaurant

A restaurant from the closer look

Interesting graffitti

A girl wanting to talk to us. Unfortunately, our languages did not match

Back to the cathedral

Now, this was interesting. We spotted some girls selling something that they carried on their heads

Apparently, they spotted us just the same

The mutual attraction resulted in us buying corn from them

I like this! And corn looks good too!

The older one asked me to help her with the basket. It is too heavy for her to pick up, but not carry? Strong necks over there in El Salvador

We are leaving Suchitoto. Its time
